Art Money!

I just came across this today and I think it’s fabulous–artmoney! Artmoney is a form of currency–small works of art that also function as cash. Artmoney must follow the guidelines of the Bank of International Artmoney in Denmark, the group which created the whole system.

Here’s how it works:

I register an artitst account with the BIAM.

I then create works of art (money), following the guidelines on their website.

My creation is now currency that can be used to purchase goods and services from businesses and people around the world. It could also be sold from the BIAM gallery. Each piece is currently equal to 34 US dollars.

What a beautiful form of alternative currency! And a fascinating way to help artists be professionals–by truly making money.

You can find their website here.
