Thank you Laurie for the tag and link on your blog! I’ve been meaning to share links to some of my new favorite shops and folks for awhile and this is the perfect reminder. So here goes:

I Made You A Beard: My husband and I have had many conversations about “trying to sell things people need” vs. “just making whatever you want with the belief there is a buyer out there”. I LOVE this shop, and its contents have definitely figured into our debate. Look and discuss amongst yourselves!

Kerri Wessel: the super talented illustrator. See her work on her brand new website! If you live in the Pioneer Valley, MA area you may also see her work live at the Hadley Trader Joe’s where we draw pictures together (she makes the cow murals, guys!)

The Black Apple: I love to keep an eye on Emily Black Apple’s blog and Etsy shop. She is an example of the self employed artistic success I desire. Not only is she making it on her own as an artist, she always seems to be cooking something yummy! Here’s to non-starving artists! (She sometimes shares recipes on her blog as well!)

Ashley G: Another example of self employed artistic success that I love to spy upon. I am especially enamored with this print.

If you leave suggestive veggie prints around the house…

…your children will find them. And play with them. And make art with them.

Aurora (age 7) and I spent the evening playing around in the studio while I filled orders. The Acorn Valentine has been officially named “My Nutty Valentine,” which led to a lot of singing in the studio…and this funny valentine/turnip hybrid by Aurora which I love:

ArtFire

I’m trying out a new online venue, ArtFire. My tiny tiny new shop is here.

I’ve heard great things about the place.

Diversify, diversify!

‘Tis the Season…

img_16841Happy Holidays Everyone!

It’s been a Murphy’s Law sort of few weeks for my family. As you can see, my cat Moe Moe has really got the worst of it. Last night Dennis, Aurora, and I simply couldn’t stop laughing as the drama hit its ridiculousness saturation point. It’s all stuff that can and will pass, and I’m grateful to be able to spend the holidays with my loving, happy, and relatively healthy family. We’re wishing the best to you and yours!

I’d also like to give a shout out to the anonymous good citizen who put my spare tire on today! I was not surprised when you told me, as I sat in my car on a quick lunch break, that I had a flat tire. This week, of course I had a flat! Thank you so much for telling me and helping me out. You totally made my week.

Road Trip

I think my right bicep is permanently clenched after dragging heavy suitcases of Ranunculae business up and down subway tunnels and trains. But it was all worth it!

First I hit the Greenfield Center School’s Juried Artisan’s Festival, which was not too far from home. Just about 25 vendors, I think, really small and friendly with a good crowd.

From there I hopped in my car and drove to Boston to get some rest before Bazaar Bizarre the next day! Mad props to Marykate and Matt who fed me and housed me and all around took care of me (I’m kind of helpless first thing in the morning, as Marykate can attest to). And, Marykate might be hurting today, too, since she was kind enough to drag the other suitcase.

Bazaar Bizarre was a lot of fun. The Castle at Park Plaza was huge, and filled with some absolutely amazing vendors. I wish I’d gotten more of a chance to explore, but the place was so big and crowded that there are entire rows of folks I didn’t get a chance to see.

The true star of the night was Jonny Spaceman, Theremin Player Extraordinaire. From the highest balcony in the Castle, Jonny rocked the theremin, playing everything from Christmas carols to Nirvana to the Pixies. All while dressed in a shiny silver suit. As I had somehow made it to age 28 thinking that a theremin was a stringed instrument, this part of the event totally rocked my world.  I’ll leave you with the best photo I could get in the dark Castle, with Jonny far away:
